Bio

I grew up on a farm in West Michigan. I was always outdoors, trying to heal all the sick animals or make better homes for them. My parents were positive that I would be a vet; however, what they didn’t know is I sucked at chemistry, and felt like passing out anytime I saw an open wound.

Flash forward to college, I studied nonprofit work in both my undergraduate and graduate studies. I found myself working in the social work/nonprofit sector, helping people with disabilities find meaningful employment. In this role, I advocated for people to help them find the dream roles that matched their strengths and an employers’ need. I thought why aren’t we all doing this? Advocating for roles that are the best fit for us? Doing whatever we can to ensure we truly enjoy our lives?

From there, I declared that my mission was to help people live in alignment with their strengths and values, and do work that was meaningful to them. I was trained as a coach under a curriculum focused on shifting one’s mindset or energy. As I like to say, it’s going from from, “I don’t know how this will work out for me” to “I’m so excited! I’m living a life beyond what I thought was possible!” Helping people make that shift is my absolute favorite thing!

In between my nonprofit sector and career coaching life, I also served a six year term as a broadcast journalist in the U.S. Army. I helped teach people how to interview with confidence, which is where my love of stroytelling really grew. After I finished my contract with the U.S. Army, I got asked to work with the U.S. Department of Defense under a national crisis training team. My role was to serve as the lead media consultant, where I created all the media content simulating a national disaster or terrorist attack. I coached leaders on how to strategically communicate on camera during those extreme times of stress. It was a challenging, yet a super fun role as I got to work with a lot of federal leaders I admired. I loved connecting with the FBI agents and hearing their hunt for “bad guys” stories and negotiation strategies, since I could geek out about human psychology all day long. I left that role because I felt the tug to help more people’s career dreams come true and what better place to do that than HTYC?!

I love working with HTYC because I really believe in their values and mission. I consider myself to be pretty intentional with my time and life, and I only wanted to work with the best of the best when it comes to career coaching. I 100% believe HTYC is that! At HTYC, we all practice what we preach. We push people out of their comfort zones in honor of them living their best lives, and we do it in our own lives too! We also all know what it is like to be in roles that make you want to cry, because you dread going to work so much. We’ve all been there, and we all understand the struggles of making a career change. I wanted to work with a team that understands their clients, is truly passionate about what they do, and is always improving – That’s why I work with HTYC!
