The non-profit Director who no longer wanted to have to “be someone else at work”

March 31, 2021 by dev

I think I’m done toning it down for somebody else. And I feel like I’m going to have a lot of space to be myself to bring like my best whole self. And that it’s work that I really care about. I feel like it’s work that needs to be done and I’m excited that I get to do it.

One of the things that I feel like you guys do really well is to keep us focused on what’s right for us! I’ve told that to friends I’ve recommended Happen to Your Career to a lot of times!!!

The UK Professional who wanted out of a negative environment (and to find a positive one!)

I can’t thank Happen to Your Career enough for giving me all the tools and resources I needed to understand my strengths and help define how those can best be used within my company.

The overwhelmed attorney who was wondering if she should still even be a lawyer

March 31, 2021 by dev

as I was diving into the bootcamp at Happen To Your Career, and I was really trying to think broadly, I had this moment of thinking, “Okay, should I even should I be a lawyer? What should I do?” so I worked with Happen To Your Career really started trying to dig deep and lay a foundation…

it was helpful to have Lisa through the interviewing process, and all the little events like “oh, someone responded like this, how should I respond?” How should I deal with all the steps along the way? I also had a tendency to form myself into what I thought they were looking for and Lisa helped me be who I actually am in the interviews.

The burnt out mom who learned her signature strengths and made (not one) but two career changes!

All the stars aligned and I ended up finding the right thing at the right place at the right time, and it was you guys! Everything that you said was speaking to me and the things that you had done in the job that you had transitioned out of and into. Also how finding work that you love is your passion for people!

Honestly, it was you Scott, I mean, the way that you talked about it, how passionate you were, I was like, there’s no way he’s gonna put out a faulty product. So I’m gonna try it, you know…

I recommend you to all my friends, you know, even if they don’t realize that they’re looking for a new job, I’m like this is the first step, let’s do this! Even if you maybe don’t move out of this career. This is going to help!

The academic who wanted to pursue multiple career paths

March 31, 2021 by dev

I wanted to share some good news with you about my next career transition. I will be starting a new position at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on December 10th as a social scientist.

It has been less than a year that I have been in my position at University of Maryland. There was really nothing wrong with that job, it allowed me a lot of bandwidth of independence, but it wasn’t quite right, still (even though it was a great transition). In that role, my values and what I needed sunk in quite a bit more, and when I realized it, I didn’t waste anytime in starting to plan for the next transition.

In this next role, I will have more autonomy in my work, more money, more responsibility, and most importantly which is the THING I ended up valuing most is more flexibility.

It is the season of being thankful (though, I try to be thankful everyday for what I have), and I would like to thank you for all that you do for people like me. This transition was so much easier than the last and so much more gratifying because of all that I learned with HTYC.

The new mom who was no longer challenged at work and wanted to keep her high income

Scott, and Lisa and the whole team it’s been a pleasure to work with you. I’ve been talking to everyone about your program and think the best of the work you do and the tools you put out.

It took me a few months to look for outside help. That was the thing I needed. Particularly as someone who has been successful it was hard for me to say I could not do this by myself. I’m a smart person I should be able to figure this out. As soon as I had my first career coaching experience it completely turned around my approach to find a new job. It completely gave me the power back and the tools I needed. If you know exactly what you want to do, you probably aren’t listening to this podcast, but if you don’t know there are a lot of tools, and resources, and people out there that can help you. For me that made all the difference.

From a “good enough job” to getting multiple job offers and creating his ideal role

during this last transition to Seattle, while working with Lisa, that help was just what I needed right then to go from where I knew I could go to where I got.

The burnt out and overworked Operations Manager who wanted to move closer to loved ones while getting well paid to do work less.

“Happen To Your Career forces you to ask questions that didn’t occur for you to ask. You are working with professionals who have not only been in your shoes but are really good at helping other people get out of this place. Intuitively they know more than you do about this process especially if it’s your first go around. Why not tap into that insight? What made it clear to me from the beginning was the 8 day email program.”

OR “I said this is how much money I have in the bank Scott. This is what I’ve got to work with I need to buy a car. We wrote a budget. Just doing the math you were like you have thirteen months. You are losing money staying where you are. That was all I needed. To budget myself and realize it was real.”

From Director with a “good” company to a C-Suite role with her ideal organization and (better than) ideal compensation!

They went from a total comp package of $165K to $359K. Wow! Wow! Wow!

I’m over the moon right now and really in shock! They reiterated how I was worth every penny and said “You can find anyone with technical expertise, but someone with your disposition and DNA is hard to come by! We can’t wait for you to join the team and are so glad we could make this work for us.”

I can’t thank you all enough for your coaching, encouraging support during these last few months! I’ve landed the role of my dreams along with the comp I wanted and knew that I deserved.

The lifelong learner who went from good job to “dream job” in non-profit

March 31, 2021 by dev

when I went through Career Change Bootcamp and starting to work through all of this – deep diving into what I wanted to do, my strengths and ideal career profile but then this opportunity presented itself! I went “wow, this checks almost all my boxes on the ideal career profile and seems to be a really great match.”

You’ve heard this so many times from people you talk with – The journey is not what you think it’s gonna be. You think it might be a straight line from A to B, but it’s like a jagged curvy line that can go all over the place.

Follow where things are leading and be open, because you just never know what’s gonna be around that next corner.

I’m so excited. I am the chief philanthropy officer at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada. And that’s really kind of a dream job.
